About the Monil Sheep Collar

I've saved a lot of time checking on the flock, and especially during gathering. Gathering that would normally take 5-8 days is now done in 2-3.

Alerts when something's wrong
The collar collects data on each sheep, and the app alerts you when something is out of the ordinary:
- Escape Alert: Get notified if a sheep crosses a virtual fence boundary.
- Stuck Animal Alert: Get notified if a sheep has remained almost completely still for approximately 10–15 hours.

Solar-powered, with a 10-year warranty
The collar features a top-mounted solar panel and is dustproof and water-resistant (IP67). Every collar is backed by a 10-year manufacturer’s warranty. New features are delivered through software updates, so you get all the improvements without replacing your collar.

When a sheep approaches a virtual fence boundary, the collar gives an audio warning. If the sheep continues forward, it receives an electrical pulse. Through training, sheep learn to recognize the audio warning and turn back.
If a sheep continues past the boundary, this process repeats up to three times. After the third round, the electrical pulses stop, the sheep is considered to have escaped, and you'll receive an alert on your phone so you know it's outside the virtual fence.
Not at this time. Monil sheep collars are designed and tested specifically for sheep. Goats have different body shapes and behaviors, and we haven't yet validated the collars for their use. Because of this, we can't guarantee proper fit, performance or animal welfare when used on goats.
For now, we only recommend using our sheep collars on sheep.
Sheep need to interact with the virtual fence several times to learn how it works. Plan for at least one week of training and keep a close eye on your flock throughout the process. It's important that your sheep understand the system before relying on virtual fencing alone.
Start in a flat, open area with plenty of grass and access to water. Place the virtual fence about 3–5 meters inside an existing physical fence so your sheep can safely learn to respond to the collar's audio cues.
Make sure your sheep encounter the virtual boundary regularly, give them time to respond to the sounds and adjust the grazing area as needed. Be patient, as some sheep may take longer to learn than others.
If a sheep isn't responding to the system after 3–5 days, check the collar's fit and function. That animal may need additional individual training before joining the rest of the flock.
The collar fits around your sheep's neck and should be loose enough to allow room for growth and wool development. A proper fit is important for your sheep's comfort and well-being throughout the grazing season.
We recommend checking the fit regularly, especially as your sheep grow or their wool gets thicker.
Monil collars use cellular connectivity, but they don't need a constant connection to maintain an existing virtual fence. Once a fence is downloaded to the collar, it continues to operate even if cellular service temporarily drops.
You'll need cellular coverage to create or update fences and receive current location information and alerts.
Yes! If you raise both cattle and sheep, you can manage them through the same Monil app. Create virtual grazing areas, track your animals and manage both species from one platform.
Whether you're grazing sheep and cattle separately or incorporating both into your grazing rotation, Monil gives you the flexibility to manage them together.
