The Monil app helps you keep track of your animals by monitoring their activity, location and collar status. When something is out of the ordinary, you’ll see an alert in the app. Some alerts are also sent as push notifications to your phone. You can find all alerts under Home → the alert icon in the top-left corner of the map.
System alerts
Escape: An animal is marked as escaped when it moves outside the virtual fence. You’ll also receive a push notification on your phone.
When an animal moves outside the virtual fence, the collar will first give audio warnings. If the animal does not turn around or stop, it will receive an electric pulse. This is repeated for up to three rounds. After this, the collar will not give any further warnings or pulses until the animal has returned inside the virtual fence and attempts to cross the boundary again.
Virtual fencing paused: The collar has reached the safety limit for electric pulses and virtual fencing has been paused. The collar will no longer give audio warnings or electric pulses. Check the animal, including whether it may be stuck near the virtual fence boundary. The alert is shown in the Monil app but is not sent as a push notification.
You can reactivate virtual fencing from the animal’s profile or via Bluetooth under Manage collars.
Low battery: You’ll see an alert in the app when a collar has a low battery level. This alert is not sent as a push notification.
Collar offline: An alert is shown if we have not received the collar’s location for more than 2 hours. This may be due to poor network coverage, a low battery or the collar being switched off. The alert is shown in the Monil app but is not sent as a push notification.
Health alerts
Animal stuck: An alert is sent if an animal has shown unusually limited movement for an extended period. This may indicate that the animal is stuck, injured or unable to get up. Check the animal as soon as possible. You’ll also receive a push notification on your phone.
Animal motionless: An alert is shown if an animal is completely inactive. This could, for example, mean that the collar has fallen off or that the animal has died. The alert is shown in the Monil app but is not sent as a push notification.
Decreased activity: An alert is shown if the animal is significantly less active than normal over several days. This may be a sign of illness or lameness. The alert is shown in the Monil app but is not sent as a push notification.
Heat: An alert is shown if the animal’s activity pattern indicates possible heat. This is based on changes in the animal’s activity level and rumination. The collar needs at least two weeks of data before heat alerts can be generated. The alert is shown in the Monil app but is not sent as a push notification.
Calving: An alert is shown if a cow marked as in calf and approaching her expected calving date stays unusually separated from the herd. She may be calving or preparing to calve. You’ll also receive a push notification on your phone.
Potentially tight collar: An alert is shown if the collar’s position suggests that it may be too tight. Check that the collar sits loosely enough around the animal’s neck. The alert is shown in the Monil app but is not sent as a push notification.
