Virtual fencing is becoming a bigger part of how cattle producers manage their animals and land, and as the technology becomes more integrated into an operation, producers need to be able to trust both the product and the company behind it. When technology is responsible for something as important as keeping cattle where they need to be, reliability matters, but so does knowing the company will continue improving the product and providing knowledgeable support for years to come.

That long-term commitment has been an important part of how we’re building Monil in the U.S., and we’re making several investments that put it into practice. We’re extending the warranty on Monil Cattle Collars from five years to 10 years for both new and existing U.S. customers, while also continuing to invest in the technology with new herd monitoring, managed grazing and connectivity capabilities coming this fall and throughout 2027.

A Longer Warranty and the Commitment Behind It

Virtual fencing can give producers more flexibility in how they manage cattle and pasture by reducing the time, labor, and expenses associated with continually moving physical fencing. As producers begin relying on the technology as part of their day-to-day operations, they are also making a significant investment and need to know the hardware they choose is designed to last.

Monil’s top-mounted Cattle Collar was built with those realities in mind, with a design that maximizes solar charging, maintains reliable GPS and cellular connectivity, supports precise virtual fence boundaries, and stands up to daily use on a cattle operation. Extending the warranty to 10 years allows us to stand behind that hardware long-term and gives producers greater confidence in the investment they’re making. The new warranty doubles Monil’s previous five-year coverage and applies to existing U.S. customers as well as producers purchasing new collars.

“We're not here to simply sell collars and move on,” said Torstein Nesse, CEO of Monil. “We're building Monil in the U.S. for the long term, and that means earning producers' trust over time. A 10-year warranty is one way we can stand behind that commitment.”

Building Monil Around Agriculture

Standing behind the technology also means having the right people behind it. Agriculture is an industry where the details of an operation matter, and understanding the realities of managing cattle, land, weather, and forage makes a difference when helping producers figure out how technology can fit into the way they already work.

As we continue to grow the Monil team in the U.S., we’ve been deliberate about bringing in people with firsthand agriculture experience and putting them in the regions where our customers operate. We’re continuing to grow our presence in the Midwest and expand our U.S.-based Farmer Success Team so that producers have access to people who understand agriculture, can answer practical questions, and will continue supporting their operation well beyond the initial sale.

That experience matters to us because Monil was never intended to be technology that gets dropped onto a farm and left for producers to figure out on their own. We want to understand how the technology is being used, where it can work better, and what producers need from it as their operations evolve. Having people on the ground who understand the industry is an important part of doing that well.

Continuing to Make Monil More Useful

Many of Monil’s capabilities can be expanded through software, which gives us the ability to keep improving what producers can do with the Cattle Collars already in use today. Beginning this fall and continuing throughout 2027, we’ll introduce several new capabilities for U.S. customers at no additional cost, including new tools for herd monitoring, managed grazing and connectivity:

Calving alerts:

Beginning in October, Monil will use changes in movement patterns to help identify when calving may be approaching. The feature builds on our existing heat detection capabilities and expands the information producers can get from the collar throughout the production cycle, giving them another way to monitor animals as calving approaches.

Improved tools for managed grazing:

In 2027, Monil will add real-time and historical pasture data, grazing reports, rest times and updated heat maps that can help producers better understand grazing intensity and pasture rest time. New strip and rotational grazing tools in the Monil app will also make it easier to divide pastures into smaller sections, plan rotations and manage available forage.

Satellite functionality:

Monil Cattle Collars currently sold in the U.S. already contain the hardware needed to support satellite connectivity, and in 2027, we’ll introduce satellite functionality as a backup for cattle grazing in remote areas where cellular coverage is limited. This will give producers another way to maintain connectivity across operations where reliable cellular service may not reach every pasture.

Collar-to-collar communication:

Also coming in 2027, Bluetooth® technology will allow nearby Monil collars to relay data between one another so that when an animal moves through an area with limited cellular coverage, another collar within range can help pass its data along, extending connectivity across the herd.

Looking Ahead

Since launching in Norway in 2022, Monil has sold more than 80,000 collars globally, and since entering the U.S. market this summer, we’ve expanded across 40 states. We’re proud of that growth, but we also know that becoming a trusted part of a cattle operation takes more than putting collars on more animals.

We want Monil to be a company producers know will be here when they need us, whether that's next season or years from now. Extending the warranty to 10 years gives producers more confidence in the collars they already have in the field, while the work happening across our product and the U.S. team means we can keep making Monil even better as we grow. We want producers who choose Monil to feel confident not only in the technology they’re using today, but in the company they’re choosing to work with for the years ahead.
