On the Road with Monil: Virtual Fencing and Family Farms in the Midwest

For our marketing team, telling Monil stories starts with getting out and meeting the people behind them. This October, members of our marketing team headed to the Midwest to spend time with customers, hear their experiences, and see how Monil fits into life on their farms.

Monil Virtual Fences

This October, members of Monil’s marketing team traveled to the Midwest to spend time with some of our customers.

We wanted to hear and film their stories, see their operations, and learn how Monil fits into their daily routines. Across three family operations in Missouri, we met producers balancing cattle, crops, full-time jobs, and family life, each with their own approach to managing the land.

There were interviews and pasture visits, plenty of filming, and some exceptionally good food. But the best part was getting to know the people behind the collars.

Our first stop was at Ryan Brothers Farm in Moscow Mills, Missouri. We then ventured near Perry, Missouri to visit the Baileys and our last stop was in Galt, Missouri at Grazing Acres.

Making Grazing Moves Easier in Retirement: Virtual Fencing at Ryan Brothers Farm

Our first stop took us to Bill, John, and Mike Ryan, who shared how Monil helps them make better use of their pasture and check on cattle grazing miles from home. Over breakfast and a visit to the herd, we heard about their family’s willingness to try new things and how Bill’s son Danny uses Monil while balancing cattle, a full-time job, and a young family.

Virtual Fencing on a Fifth-Generation Farm: Bailey Beef Co.

Banana bread, a drone-chasing dog, and some unforgettable burgers made for a memorable day with the Baileys. We met three generations and headed into the pastures with Austin to hear how virtual fencing supports their rotational grazing practices while fitting around his full-time job and family life.

Rotational Grazing Since the ’80s: Grazing Acres Chose Monil Virtual Fencing for Its Next Chapter

Dennis McDonald has practiced rotational grazing since the 1980s. Today, his son-in-law Bryan is taking over through the family’s succession planning, carrying that same grazing philosophy forward. We visited to hear how they’re keeping the operation in the family and using Monil to manage twice-daily grazing moves across around 1,000 acres, with less time spent traveling and moving temporary fences.

We headed home with full memory cards, muddy boots, and a better understanding of the people whose stories we get to tell. Thank you to the Ryan, Bailey, and McDonald families for welcoming us onto your farms and around your tables.
