Monil builds virtual fencing and herd monitoring tools for cattle operations. We first rolled out in Norway in 2023, expanded to the UK, and are now launching in the US. Along the way, we’ve stayed focused on building a collar that works for everyday farm life.
Because we know cattle are tough on equipment.
Collars get rubbed against feeders and slammed into gates. They’re exposed to mud, dust, rain, heat, and whatever else the weather can throw at it. Out in the pasture, things take a beating.
The producers I’ve met have very little patience for equipment that works great in perfect conditions but creates headaches after a few months in the field. If a tool is supposed to make life easier, it needs to keep working no matter what.
Why Monil’s collar looks different
Picture a cow moving through the pasture on a normal day. She lowers her head to graze, rubs against a feeder, moves through a gate, stands in the rain, and spends hours outside in changing weather. That’s the life the Monil collar was built for.
When our engineering team looked at every piece of technology that needed to go into the collar, they kept coming back to one question: where would it work best? The answer kept pointing them to the top of the animal’s neck.
From there, the solar panel has a clearer view of the sky for charging. The GNSS/GPS technology can do its job more reliably, and the mobile connection starts from a stronger position. Just as important, the collar stays stable and out of the way as the animal grazes and moves around.

Monil collar quick facts
Works on the cellular network, no towers or base stations required
Solar-powered, built for long days in the pasture
Top-mounted for charging, positioning, and connectivity
Smooth molded band stays in place and easy to replace if damaged
Lightweight design and weather-sealed electronics
Minimum order starts at 6 collars
Made for weather, wear and long days outdoors
Getting the placement right was the first step. From there, the team kept refining the collar device itself. They made it smaller and lighter, and that helped make it tougher. A smaller device is easier to seal, easier to protect, and better suited for years spent outside.
Our collar is designed to handle moisture, condensation, dust, heat, cold, and long days of use. It’s sealed to protect the electronics, and the solar cell sits safely inside to help prevent the kind of everyday wear and tear that could harm performance.

Comfortable for the cow, simple for the farmer
Our team also knew that a collar has to be practical on the day it is fitted. Ours uses a smooth molded band that rests comfortably on the animal and stays in place. For the farmer, it’s quick to fit and easy to adjust, with a weighted locking mechanism that keeps it positioned correctly under the neck.
Testing was another important part of the process. Our collars have been crushed and pulled, immersed in water, exposed to oils and chemicals, and subjected to a range of climate conditions. We needed to know that they will keep working on the cattle, in the pasture, under any condition, season after season.
Getting started with Monil
We know that every cattle operation looks a little different. Some producers want to start with a larger rollout, and others want to try virtual fencing with a smaller group first to learn how it works. With Monil, you can start out with as few as six collars and go from there. Here’s a breakdown of our pricing.

Available now in the Midwest
Monil collars are available for shipping now, with local support in our first launch states (Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri & Oklahoma). We are also talking with producers outside those areas as interest grows.
